As a Senior Operations Electrical Engineer, you will provide technical leadership for protection and control systems supporting renewable generation, collection systems, substations, and gen tie facilities. You will serve as the primary technical resource for high voltage substations, managing outage investigations, abnormal equipment behavior reviews, and reliability improvements. Your daily work involves developing relay settings, performing event analysis, and ensuring compliance with NERC PRC standards like PRC-028, PRC-029, and PRC-030. You will manage protection coordination strategies for inverter-based resources across wind, solar, and battery storage assets while mentoring junior engineers. The role requires expertise in SEL products, GE Relays, and tools such as ASPEN or ETAP for short-circuit analysis. You will solve complex technical problems regarding three-phase power systems, ride-through performance, and protection schemes to ensure stable operation of large-scale renewable energy infrastructure.
Provide technical leadership for protection and control systems across high voltage substations and renewable generation facilities.
Conduct event analysis, report on abnormal equipment behavior, and lead outage investigations to improve system reliability.
Manage NERC PRC compliance requirements including reporting, corrective actions, and performance monitoring for protection systems.
Develop and maintain protection philosophies, relay settings, and coordination strategies across the entire asset fleet.
Lead cross-functional projects involving procedure development, practice standardization, and the management of engineering consultants.
Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers regarding relay protection, disturbance analysis, and NERC compliance.
Represent the company in external forums, industry working groups, and engagements with utilities and regulatory bodies.
What we're looking for
BS in Electrical Engineering or a similar major.
5-8+ years of work experience in protection & control, power systems, substations, or renewable energy applications.
Demonstrated experience in protection & control of HV systems.
Experience with SEL products and tools.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Masters in Electrical Engineering with a Power Systems focus (preferred); advanced knowledge of three-phase power systems, substations, and high voltage equipment (preferred).
