TL;DR · Senior Mission Software Engineer

The Senior Mission Software Engineer joins the Anduril Maritime team to resolve complex technical issues within autonomous underwater and surface vehicle systems. This role focuses on identifying, reproducing, and fixing field-reported anomalies in the production codebase rather than just triaging tickets. You will investigate sensor failures and mission faults by replaying recorded data through live pipelines and utilizing existing metrics and log infrastructure to reconstruct system states. The position requires proficiency in at least two of Rust, C++, Python, or Go, alongside Linux systems fluency and experience with observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, or ELK. You will solve critical problems involving sensor fusion, mission logic, and data streams while building out the team's triage runbooks. This role provides a path toward owning subsystems by mastering the full software stack through high-stakes troubleshooting.

What you'll do

  • Identify the specific subsystem responsible for field-reported anomalies like sensor failures or data drifts.
  • Reproduce bugs by replaying recorded sensor and mission data through live pipelines and visualization tools.
  • Use existing metrics and log infrastructure to reconstruct system states at the moment of failure.
  • Validate fixes in simulated environments and hardware-in-the-loop setups before deploying to real vehicles.
  • Write and test code fixes in Rust, C++, Python, or Go using standard versioned rollout procedures.
  • Distinguish between bugs, configuration errors, and deployment mismatches to ensure the fix occurs at the correct layer.
  • Document root causes and resolutions for every closed issue to build team runbooks and identify recurring issues.
  • Advocate for fundamental subsystem changes when a simple patch is insufficient to address the underlying problem.

What we're looking for

  • Experience debugging code you did not write under time pressure with incomplete information.
  • Proficiency in at least two of Rust, modern C++, Python, or Go.
  • Systems-debugging instincts including using logs and metrics to reconstruct system states from recorded data.
  • Experience with observability tooling such as Prometheus/Grafana-class metrics and Loki/ELK-class logs.
  • Linux and systems fluency.
  • Ability to clearly document root causes and technical fixes without padding.
  • Willingness to travel 25% of the time on average.
  • Robotics middleware, sensor drivers, or real-time data pipeline experience (preferred).
