JOB TITLE: Senior iOS App Development Engineer - Services Special Project As a Senior iOS App Development Engineer - Services Special Project, you will join the Services engineering team to design and build foundational on-device systems powering Generative AI experiences. You will own critical framework and daemon components, focusing on platform-level engineering beneath the UI layer. Your daily responsibilities include implementing inter-process communication layers using XPC, architecting CloudKit-based data synchronization, and designing interfaces for REST endpoints. You will also build metrics and telemetry frameworks while driving architectural decisions and mentoring other engineers. The role requires proficiency in Swift, Objective-C, and systems programming concepts like concurrency and memory management. You will utilize tools such as Xcode, LLDB, Instruments, and Git to solve complex problems regarding performance, energy efficiency, and resource constraints on mobile platforms.

What you'll do

Design and implement frameworks, daemons, and system services for the Services ecosystem.
Build efficient inter-process communication layers using XPC for secure data exchange.
Architect and implement CloudKit-based data synchronization for cross-device experiences.
Design robust interfaces to REST endpoints and backend services with graceful degradation.
Build and maintain metrics and telemetry frameworks to measure feature health and performance.
Drive architectural decisions and perform peer reviews of API designs and software changes.
Mentor other engineers to improve engineering quality and technical depth.

What we're looking for

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
6+ years of software engineering experience on client-side or platform-level iOS systems.
Strong proficiency in Swift and Objective-C for shipping production-quality frameworks, daemons, or system APIs.
Strong systems programming expertise in concurrency, multithreading, memory management, and performance tuning.
Understanding of systems-level concepts including XPC, process lifecycle management, and resource constraints.
Experience integrating client applications with RESTful APIs and cloud services.
Proficiency with Xcode, LLDB, Instruments, and Git.
Experience with CloudKit, AI/ML principles, or SQL and database technologies (preferred).
