TL;DR · Senior Hardware Serviceability Engineer

The Senior Hardware Serviceability Engineer joins the Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering team to lead Design for Serviceability and Design for Integration strategies. This role focuses on optimizing cloud infrastructure by managing serviceability design, tool development, and spares readiness in collaboration with partners and internal teams. Day-to-day responsibilities include performing hardware teardowns, capturing time-on-task results, determining FRU boundaries, and authoring service collateral like manuals and spare BOMs. The candidate will manage change control via ADO and ECO processes while driving post-mortem improvements for future programs. Key technical skills involve experience in system servicing, infrastructure engineering, cloud fleet management, telemetry, and troubleshooting IT systems. The role addresses the critical need for high-volume, high-quality hardware deployment within a large-scale cloud environment, specifically focusing on manufacturing, quality, and serviceability of server and data center infrastructure.

What you'll do

  • Drive Design for Serviceability (DFS) and Design for Integration (DFI) requirements through partner assessment checklists.
  • Lead serviceability design using hardware teardowns to capture data, determine FRU status, and track issues to closure.
  • Influence EE/ME/Thermal engineers to define clear FRU boundaries and ensure tool-less or standard-tool serviceability in prototypes.
  • Author and update technical documentation including service manuals, spares BOMs, labels, and tool lists.
  • Manage supplier scorecards and drive the delivery of prototypes and mechanical mock-ups with ODMs.
  • Maintain change control hygiene by ensuring all serviceability artifacts are versioned and traceable via ECO/ECN processes.
  • Conduct post-mortems to roll lessons learned into standard checklists for future New Product Introduction programs.

What we're looking for

  • A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field and 3+ years of technical engineering experience.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field and 5+ years of technical engineering experience.
  • Ability to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check.
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field and 7+ years of technical engineering experience (preferred).
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field and 8+ years of technical engineering experience (preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in system servicing, site service engineering, or infrastructure engineering with a focus on AI systems (preferred).
  • Experience or knowledge of cloud fleet management, telemetry, diagnostic, and troubleshooting of IT systems (preferred).
  • Experience or knowledge of server industry product development or liquid cooling infrastructure for IT racks (preferred).
