As a Senior Equipment Safety Engineer, Rocket Motor Systems, you will join the Rocket Motor Systems team to ensure that automated equipment for high-rate production of Solid Rocket Motors is designed, validated, and operated according to rigorous safety standards. You will serve as the primary safety expert during the design, commissioning, and validation of manufacturing and process equipment, including robotics, conveyance, lifting systems, and process machinery. Your daily responsibilities include performing hazard analyses, conducting risk assessments, and architecting safety systems such as E-Stops, scanners, light curtains, and door interlocks while ensuring regulatory compliance. The role requires expertise in selecting and integrating safety hardware, proficiency in CAD packages like NX, Solidworks, or AutoCAD, and a specialized certification in Functional Safety or as a Certified Machinery Safety Expert to manage hazardous production processes.
Lead machine safety efforts for manufacturing and process equipment at the McHenry production facility.
Serve as the primary safety expert during the design, commissioning, and validation of automated production equipment.
Determine relevant safety standards and conduct hazard analyses and risk assessments for robotics and lifting systems.
Perform safety buyoffs for conveyance, robotics, process equipment, and other manufacturing machinery.
Architect safety systems including E-Stops, scanners, light curtains, and door interlocks.
Investigate equipment safety failures or workplace injuries and provide necessary corrective actions.
Ensure all production equipment remains in compliance with applicable regulatory standards.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in Robotics/Controls, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or similar.
3+ years of machine safety experience in a production environment.
Must hold one of the following certifications: Functional Safety (TUV Rheinland), Functional Safety Engineer (TUV SUD), or Certified Machinery Safety Expert (TUV NORD).
Deep knowledge in selection, integration, and validation of safety hardware.
Familiarity with CAD packages including NX, Solidworks, or AutoCAD.
Must be a U.S. Person due to required access to export controlled information or facilities.
5+ years of machine safety experience in a production environment (preferred).
Experience with control panel layout, electrical component selection, cable routing, regulatory agencies, and hazardous processes (preferred).
