Senior Engineering Team Director - Aladdin Engineering ETF Systems Engineering leads a globally distributed engineering organization focused on the ETF Servicing Platform and related mission-critical applications like Basket Management and Order Fulfillment. This leadership role is responsible for the technical vision, delivery execution, and AI transformation of systems supporting the iShares primary markets business. The successful candidate will oversee microservices decomposition, event-driven architectures using Kafka, cloud-native infrastructure on Azure or AWS, and robust CI/CD pipelines. Key responsibilities include defining architecture standards, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing talent strategy, and implementing GenAI tools for engineering productivity. The role addresses the complex technical challenges of high-availability financial systems, specifically focusing on creation and redemption workflows within a highly regulated environment to support global market expansion and diverse asset classes across the investment lifecycle.
Define and drive the long-term technical vision and architecture for the ETF engineering platform.
Lead the development of microservices, event-driven architectures, and cloud-native infrastructure.
Execute the AI and GenAI adoption strategy to improve developer productivity and product features.
Oversee delivery across multiple teams using Agile/SAFe frameworks while managing cross-team dependencies.
Ensure all engineering practices comply with global regulations and internal risk management policies.
Manage production stability, incident response, and high-availability strategies for critical financial workflows.
Lead, mentor, and develop a globally distributed organization of over 50 engineers.
Partner with product and business leadership to align technical investments with commercial goals.
What we're looking for
15+ years of progressive software engineering experience and 5+ years in senior leadership roles managing large, globally distributed teams.
BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Expertise in building and operating high-availability, mission-critical financial systems at scale.
Technical proficiency in Java, microservices architecture, cloud-native infrastructure (Azure/AWS), event-driven systems (Kafka), and modern CI/CD practices.
Proven ability to drive organizational design, talent development, and engineering culture in regulated environments.
Strong communication skills to partner with executive leadership and cross-functional business units.
Experience with ETF primary markets, capital markets technology, or investment management platforms (preferred).
Experience leading AI/GenAI adoption, familiarity with financial regulations (SOX, SEC, FCA), or experience with Aladdin (preferred).
