JOB TITLE: Senior Director, Applied Science - Robotics
As Senior Director, Applied Science - Robotics, you will lead a high-impact organization responsible for advancing robotics strategy and delivering technical, operational, and organizational capabilities to manage robotic systems at scale. You will lead teams of scientists, data engineers, and machine learning engineers to build production-ready capabilities across perception, sensor fusion, multimodal AI, embodied AI, robot planning, mission execution, telemetry, digital twins, and cloud services. Your core responsibilities include setting scientific direction, driving AI development for data collection, model architecture, and inference design, and establishing standards for reliability, safety, and security. You will utilize expertise in computer vision, signal processing, statistical modeling, and reinforcement learning to translate scientific advances into scalable, marketable robotics solutions that solve complex business problems within cloud service environments.
Set the scientific and technical direction for robotics, perception, and embodied AI initiatives.
Lead teams of scientists and engineers in applied research for multi-sensor fusion, reinforcement learning, and planning.
Drive the development and deployment of AI capabilities for robotic systems and related cloud services.
Identify and prioritize product opportunities where robotics can create measurable customer and business impact.
Define dataset strategies, data quality standards, evaluation protocols, and operational feedback loops.
Establish standards for reliability, latency, safety, security, and production readiness for all robotics solutions.
Recruit, mentor, and develop senior scientists and engineers to improve research rigor and engineering quality.
Manage the portfolio of intellectual property, including patents, publications, and reusable technical patterns.
What we're looking for
Must have 15+ years of experience in robotics, machine learning, AI, computer vision, perception, signal processing, statistical modeling, data mining, or software engineering.
Must have a relevant degree-based experience in a technical discipline if 15+ years of experience is not met.
Must have demonstrated experience leading applied science, research, machine learning, or engineering teams through complex technical programs to production.
Must have proven ability to guide high-complexity technical decisions and communicate robotics and AI strategy to executive and cross-functional audiences.
Must have experience delivering AI, robotics, perception, embodied AI, or multimodal systems into production or customer-facing environments.
Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
Ph.D. in Computer Science, Robotics, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field (preferred).
Demonstrated experience leading R&D efforts within cloud services, AI platforms, robotics, or embodied AI organizations (preferred).
