TL;DR · Senior Confidential Computing Software Engineer (Kubernetes & Virtualization)

Senior Confidential Computing Software Engineer (Kubernetes & Virtualization) joins the SW Ecosystem Security Engineering Team to deliver confidential computing enablement for AMD EPYC platforms. The role focuses on making AMD SEV-SNP capabilities usable through open source virtualization and confidential computing stacks, including KubeVirt, OpenShift Virtualization, Kata Containers, VirTEE, and Trustee. You will develop and upstream features across host, guest, hypervisor, and container runtime layers while collaborating with upstream communities and OS vendors. Key responsibilities include implementing attestation functionality, debugging integration issues across Linux, KVM, QEMU, and libvirt, and creating hardware-backed validation tests. The ideal candidate possesses systems software expertise in Rust, Go, Python, and Bash, alongside deep knowledge of Kubernetes, x86 architecture, and confidential computing technologies like SEV-SNP to solve complex problems regarding secure workload launch and trusted execution environments.

What you'll do

  • Develop and upstream AMD SEV-SNP enablement for KubeVirt including configuration, libvirt/QEMU integration, and end-to-end validation.
  • Implement confidential VM and attestation functionality across VirTEE, Trustee, and related components to ensure secure workload launches.
  • Enable confidential container support where it intersects with VM-based trusted execution environments like Kata Containers.
  • Debug complex integration issues across Linux, KVM, QEMU, libvirt, guest firmware, and various container runtimes.
  • Create and maintain CI coverage, hardware-backed validation, and functional tests for AMD confidential computing features.
  • Optimize EPYC platform performance by managing NUMA locality, cache hierarchy, and CPU pinning for confidential VMs.
  • Produce technical documentation, usage guidance, and proof-of-concept support for confidential computing workflows.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Experience in systems software development using Rust, Go, Python, and Bash.
  • Proficiency with Kubernetes, Linux, KVM, QEMU, libvirt, guest firmware, and container runtimes.
  • Hands-on experience with KubeVirt, OpenShift Virtualization, or comparable open source virtualization environments.
  • Experience with confidential computing technologies such as AMD SEV-SNP, trusted execution environments, and attestation components.
  • Track record of contributing code, tests, documentation, or design proposals to upstream open source projects.
  • Experience developing CI, hardware-backed validation, and technical guides for virtualization or platform enablement.
  • Understanding of x86 or AMD EPYC architecture concepts including memory encryption, NUMA topology, and cache hierarchy.
