As a Senior Compute Runtime Software Engineer, you will join the Apple Services Engineering team to develop virtualization-based runtimes that power next-generation compute platforms. What you'll do

Develop virtualization-based runtimes to execute Virtual Machines and Linux Containers across data centers and Apple platforms.
Design and implement core infrastructure features involving kernel security, image distribution, and filesystems.
Maintain the "Apple Container" open-source project for native container support on macOS desktops.
Lead end-to-end technical designs from initial architecture documentation through to final implementation.
Resolve complex, ambiguous systems problems related to performance, privacy, and security in greenfield projects.
Define and execute comprehensive test strategies including regression prevention and security testing for complex systems.
Analyze system metrics to identify resource contention, bottlenecks, and establish scalability models via benchmarking.
Mentor engineers at all levels and set technical standards for code quality and review.

What we're looking for

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent related experience.
At least 8 years of software design and development experience in infrastructure engineering including compute, storage, and network virtualization.
Advanced proficiency in C, C++, Swift, or Go for developing high-performance, secure, and scalable systems.
Hands-on experience with Linux containerization, filesystems, image distribution, content storage, and kernel/container security.
Proven track record of owning technical designs end-to-end from architecture tradeoffs through implementation.
Experience in Linux system programming and defining test strategies for complex systems.
Experience with container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) or virtualization technologies (Kata, Firecracker, KubeVirt).
Experience with Darwin systems programming using Swift or virtualization based on Cloud Hypervisor, QEMU, or KVM.
