Senior Applied AI Engineer, Agent Tools & Capabilities

What you'll do

• Develop and optimize the platform and runtime powering Siri under strict latency, memory, and power constraints.
• Design tool representations and orchestration systems to allow models to plan and reason through novel capabilities.
• Build API abstractions and frameworks that enable models to execute actions across Apple’s ecosystem of apps and services.
• Craft the specific language and data structures that models use to interact with external tools.
• Design realistic evaluations and diagnose complex failure modes to ensure dependable model performance.
• Engineer the execution layer to ensure fast performance across Macs, iPhones, and Apple Watches.
• Embed safety, security, and privacy architectures directly into the AI platform.
• Drive the quality loop from early feature development through data-driven experimentation and field data analysis.

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field.
• 3+ years of industry experience.
• Strong programming skills in Swift, C++, Objective-C, or Python.
• Hands-on experience shipping production systems built around LLMs.
• Knowledge of agentic systems, including planning, orchestration, and multi-step tool use.
• Ability to communicate and deliver in fast-moving, ambiguous environments.
• Experience in prompt engineering, tool representation, or tool retrieval (preferred).
• Experience designing evals and improving model quality with data (preferred).
• Familiarity with App Intents or other Apple frameworks (preferred).
• Strong API design skills and a track record of building platforms for other developers (preferred).
• MS or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field (preferred).
