R&D Staff Software Engineer

What you'll do

• Drive the technical direction and architectural evolution of Zowe CLI, Zowe Explorer, and other client applications.
• Design, develop, test, and maintain features using TypeScript, Node.js, AG Grid, and React.
• Implement command-line interfaces and REST API interactions with z/OS services like JES and MVS datasets.
• Ensure codebase security and reliability through unit, integration, and end-to-end testing via CI/CD pipelines.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex software defects, performance bottlenecks, and production issues.
• Participate as a contributor, committer, or maintainer within the Zowe open-source community.
• Collaborate with external engineers to define and implement common standards and features for the Zowe project.
• Contribute to Zowe documentation and tutorials to promote adoption and provide technical assistance.

What we're looking for

• 8 or more years of experience in Mainframe software development or a related field.
• Experience in JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, C/C++, and Node.js-based applications.
• Experience developing on Linux/Unix systems.
• Expertise in building and maintaining VS Code extensions using the VS Code Extension API and web technologies.
• Deep understanding of Command Line Interface (CLI) development best practices and shell scripting.
• Proficiency with Git, Agile/Scrum methodologies, and modern software development lifecycle practices.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Direct experience with Zowe CLI and Zowe Explorer development, customization, or advanced usage (preferred).
