JOB TITLE: R&D Manager, Project Leadership & Software
The R&D Manager, Project Leadership & Software leads teams of engineers and technical program managers within the Workstations R&D group to deliver secure, reliable HP Z Workstation experiences. This role manages multiple development activities across product lifecycles, overseeing workstation firmware development, platform software integration, and program execution. Key responsibilities include driving Windows and Linux operating system readiness, hardware enablement, driver integration, and certification. The manager establishes firmware and OS development strategies, manages budgets, and leads cross-functional teams including Architecture, Security, and Manufacturing. You will utilize skills in technical program management, risk mitigation, and supplier management to ensure platform readiness. The work involves solving complex hardware and software integration problems, ensuring compatibility with silicon partners and operating system vendors to support professional and enterprise computing environments.
Lead firmware, operating system, and low-level platform software engineering teams for HP Z Workstation platforms.
Manage Windows and Linux OS integration, including hardware enablement, driver integration, certification, and security.
Drive platform execution from early architecture and bring-up through product launch and lifecycle refreshes.
Establish firmware and OS development strategies, release plans, and quality objectives aligned with business roadmaps.
Lead a team of Technical Program Managers to oversee cross-functional workstation development programs and governance.
Manage staffing, recruitment, performance management, and career development for engineering and program management teams.
Coordinate with silicon partners, ODMs, and OS vendors to ensure platform compatibility and certification.
Identify and mitigate technical, execution, and schedule risks across multiple concurrent platform programs.
What we're looking for
Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline, or commensurate work experience.
Typically 10+ years of job-related experience in electronics or computer hardware/software development, technical program management, or a related technical development environment.
Typically 8-10 years of management or technical leadership experience leading engineering functions and teams across organizational or geographic boundaries.
Demonstrated ability to manage project elements, resources, schedules, budgets, suppliers, and technical risks.
Experience with workstation-class platforms, enterprise PCs, high-performance computing systems, or other complex computing products (preferred).
Experience leading system-level functional, lifecycle validation (preferred).
Experience operating at the intersection of R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, suppliers, and customer engagement (preferred).
Experience working with silicon partners and global original design manufacturers (preferred).
