Quantum Algorithm Engineer

What you'll do

• Design and optimize quantum algorithms to solve complex problems in fields like chemistry, physics, and materials science.
• Perform system-level performance modeling and implement production-ready software across the IBM Quantum stack.
• Lead high-visibility technology demonstrations to showcase state-of-the-art capabilities to strategic partners and the scientific community.
• Partner with clients to execute research roadmaps and achieve peer-reviewed results using advanced error suppression techniques.
• Identify critical software gaps and provide expert feedback to internal product teams to influence hardware and software evolution.
• Deliver technical workshops and lectures to translate complex quantum advancements into actionable insights for academic and enterprise developers.
• Create sophisticated educational resources to lower the barrier to entry for researchers from diverse backgrounds.

What we're looking for

• Master's degree in Physics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Doctorate degree (preferred).
• 3+ years of hands-on experience in quantum computing and running near-term algorithms on quantum hardware.
• Track record of scientific publications and experience in academic or industry research.
• Proficiency in Python, Qiskit, and the IBM Quantum software stack with a deep understanding of quantum architecture.
• Experience in analyzing, modeling, and tuning quantum hardware performance including transpilation and error mitigation.
• Project management skills to manage multiple tasks, influence stakeholders, and translate goals into actionable plans.
• Experience in HPC programming and software development (GitHub, CI/CD) is preferred; C, C++, or Rust are pluses.
