JOB TITLE: Quality & Test Automation Engineer – Developer Experience The Quality & Test Automation Engineer – Developer Experience joins the Xcode team to enhance the tools used for developing software across iOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS platforms. You will be paired with an Xcode feature team to extend automated testing coverage for Xcode and Instruments. Your daily responsibilities include building shared testing APIs, developing strategies to maximize coverage with minimal manual intervention, and identifying, reproducing, and documenting software defects. You must perform root-cause analysis for issues spanning OS, compiler, and runtime boundaries. Required skills include object-oriented programming in Swift and Python, UI framework testing, and debugging. Preferred experience includes macOS and iOS frameworks like AppKit, UIKit, SwiftUI, XCTest, LLDB, and using LLMs or AI tooling for quality and automation workflows.

What you'll do

Create and maintain automated tests and tools to ensure high-quality software delivery.
Extend automated testing coverage for Xcode and Instruments features.
Build shared APIs for testing to maximize coverage with minimal manual intervention.
Identify, reproduce, and document software defects through root-cause analysis.
Analyze failure modes spanning OS, compiler, and runtime boundaries.
Develop and execute detailed test plans for complex software systems.
Perform UI framework testing, debugging, and regression identification.
Use LLMs or AI tooling to improve quality, failure triage, and automation workflows.

What we're looking for

BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
Strong object-oriented programming experience in Swift and/or Python or other scripting experience.
Demonstrated experience writing and executing detailed test plans for complex software systems.
Proven ability to identify, reproduce, and clearly document software defects with strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
Experience with UI framework testing, debugging, bug hunting, and regression identification.
Experience with macOS/iOS platform frameworks such as AppKit, UIKit, SwiftUI, XCTest, or LLDB (preferred).
Demonstrated use of LLMs or AI tooling to improve quality, failure triage, or automation workflows (preferred).
Track record of shipping test automation frameworks at scale; experience mentoring engineers or leading cross-team quality initiatives (preferred).
