TL;DR · QSP Scientist

The QSP Scientist will join the Translational Disease Modeling group to support the research and development portfolio. This role involves developing and implementing multiscale computational models of complex diseases based on detailed biological mechanistic knowledge. The scientist will survey literature to identify physiological processes, analyze internal preclinical and clinical data, and assess the functionality and validity of new models. Key responsibilities include communicating technical material to stakeholders and maintaining extensive documentation of the development process. Candidates should possess expertise in quantitative systems pharmacology, differential equations, and programming in tools such as MATLAB, Julia, and R. The work focuses on using mechanistic modeling and simulation to enhance the understanding of disease mechanisms and guide therapeutic intervention strategies within the fields of immuno-oncology or neuroscience.

What you'll do

  • Develop multiscale computational models of complex diseases based on detailed biological mechanistic knowledge.
  • Identify suitable mechanistic elements, data, parameters, and assumptions by surveying relevant literature.
  • Analyze internal preclinical and clinical data to inform and refine modeling activities.
  • Assess the functionality, efficiency, and validity of new computational models.
  • Analyze simulation results to identify and resolve issues regarding model performance and accuracy.
  • Communicate technical modeling materials and predictions to internal and external audiences.
  • Maintain extensive documentation of the model development process and data analysis.
  • Contribute to the computational infrastructure of the Translational Disease Modeling group.

What we're looking for

  • PhD or Master's degree in systems pharmacology, biology, computational biology, systems biology, biomedical engineering, or a related field.
  • PhD candidates must have at least 1 year of experience generating disease, mechanistic/multiscale, or QSP models.
  • Master's candidates must have at least 4 years of experience generating disease, mechanistic/multiscale, or QSP models in an industry/pharma setting.
  • Track record of productivity in mechanistic or QSP modeling as evident with publications (preferred).
  • Machine learning experience (preferred).
  • Proficiency in mathematical modeling using differential equations and programming in MATLAB, Julia, and R (preferred).
  • Knowledge of Immuno-oncology or Neuroscience (preferred).
  • Experience in drug discovery/development, especially in bioinformatics or pharmacometrics (preferred).
