Product Developer

What you'll do

• Develop high-impact innovative abrasive products in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
• Leverage new technologies to create novel, high-performance abrasive products.
• Apply scientific and engineering knowledge to solve complex technical problems.
• Build product concepts to demonstrate feasibility and partner with manufacturing for scale-up.
• Generate project scopes, plans, and designs of experiments using technical leadership skills.
• Strengthen 3M’s proprietary position through the development of intellectual property.
• Perform hands-on experimentation with wet chemistries and coating equipment in lab and manufacturing settings.

What we're looking for

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline from an accredited university.
• Eight years of technology or product development experience with nonwovens, composites, and/or abrasives.
• Ph.D. with technical expertise in polymers, abrasives, or nonwovens (preferred).
• Technical expertise in urethane, epoxy, or phenolic chemistries and chemicals (preferred).
• Comfort in hands-on experimentation, working with wet chemistries, and coating and web handling equipment (preferred).
• Experience in phase-gate commercialization processes and successful demonstration of scale-up to manufacturing (preferred).
• Experience in IP generation and strategy (preferred).
• Ability to create/execute DOEs, use analytical techniques, and collaborate across functions with strong communication skills (preferred).
