As a Principal System Architect - Photon Flash, you will define the architecture for an investigational Photon FLASH radiation therapy platform designed for clinical trials. You will serve as the critical bridge between clinical relevance and the technical framework guiding both software and hardware development. Your daily responsibilities include translating emerging FLASH science into integrated system architectures covering treatment planning, radiation delivery, imaging, controls, workflow, and data systems. You will lead system-level decisions, risk management, hazard analysis, and design trade-offs while ensuring alignment with FDA design controls. The role requires a deep understanding of radiation therapy treatment planning, optimization, and delivery systems to solve complex problems in radiobiology, radiation physics, and dose-rate modeling. You will collaborate across multidisciplinary teams including clinicians and medical physicists to translate clinical needs into technical requirements for this specialized healthcare technology.
Define the overall architecture and technical roadmap for the Photon FLASH ecosystem.
Translate radiobiology, clinical viability, and radiation physics requirements into system features.
Lead system-level decisions across treatment planning, radiation delivery, controls, and clinical workflows.
Balance clinical needs with technical constraints, safety, and performance during development.
Manage system-level risk, hazard analysis, and design trade-offs for the platform.
Ensure all designs align with FDA controls and applicable medical device standards.
Collaborate with clinicians and stakeholders to shape future clinical use cases and study requirements.
What we're looking for
Ph.D. in Physics, Medical Physics, Biomedical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
10+ years of experience developing complex medical devices, treatment planning systems, radiation therapy platforms, or other regulated healthcare technologies.
Strong systems engineering background with experience leading multidisciplinary product development.
Deep understanding of radiation therapy treatment planning, optimization, and delivery systems.
Experience with medical device risk management, regulatory requirements, and design controls.
Ability to translate clinical needs and protocols into technical requirements.
Excellent technical leadership and cross-functional communication skills.
