TL;DR · Principal Software Developer, AI/ML Performance Validation & Systems Testing

Principal Software Developer – AI/ML Performance Validation & Systems Testing serves as a senior technical leader for ROCm software validation across compute workloads and server-class systems. In this individual-contributor leadership role, you will define the validation strategy, build test infrastructure to gate every ROCm release, and resolve complex debugging and characterization problems. You will own the end-to-end validation architecture including unit, performance, stress, and system-level tests for multi-node GPU platforms. Key responsibilities include architecting distributed test runners using GitHub Actions or Jenkins, managing quality workflows, and validating LLM training and inference workloads. Required skills include expert Python for automation, C++ for debugging, and experience with PyTorch, JAX, Triton, and vLLM. You will address technical challenges in GPU software stacks, HPC runtimes, and large-scale cluster systems to ensure high-quality performance for AI/ML applications.

What you'll do

  • Own the end-to-end validation architecture for ROCm across multiple GPU generations and server platforms.
  • Define release-qualification gates and exit criteria for software performance, stability, and functional coverage.
  • Architect test infrastructure including distributed runners, CI/CD pipelines, and automated data collection systems.
  • Lead complex escalation debugging to root-cause multi-node failures and convert findings into durable test coverage.
  • Influence the product roadmap by ensuring validation readiness for next-generation hardware before silicon arrival.
  • Drive compute workload validation for LLM training, inference, and scientific HPC kernels.
  • Perform system-level testing for server nodes involving multi-GPU topologies, firmware interactions, and network fabrics.
  • Mentor senior engineers and represent ROCm validation in external customer and open-source engagements.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience in software engineering for validation, SDET, or quality engineering, including leading complex systems validation (preferred).
  • Expert Python skills for test automation and infrastructure (preferred).
  • Strong C++ skills for debugging and extending production code (preferred).
  • Deep validation expertise in two or more areas: GPU software stacks, AI/ML frameworks, HPC runtimes, Linux kernel/drivers, or distributed systems (preferred).
  • Experience validating multi-GPU, multi-node server platforms including stress, soak, fault injection, and RAS testing (preferred).
  • Experience defining and delivering release qualification programs for hyperscalers, OEMs, or Tier-1 customers (preferred).
  • Contributions to validation, CI, or test infrastructure for ROCm, PyTorch, LLVM, Triton, vLLM, or similar open-source projects (preferred).
