Principal Product Manager, AI Custom Models

What you'll do

• Define and lead the product strategy and roadmap for custom models and self-hosted AI capabilities.
• Drive discovery, prioritization, and delivery of features supporting model flexibility and agent orchestration.
• Translate complex customer and technical needs into clear product requirements for engineering and design teams.
• Account for infrastructure, configuration, deployment, and hardware constraints in self-managed environments.
• Align the specific product area with broader GitLab AI platform strategies and initiatives.
• Make critical tradeoff decisions based on customer value, technical feasibility, and long-term quality.
• Facilitate knowledge transfer and maintain continuity as the team grows and evolves.
• Communicate plans and priorities clearly to support distributed teams in an asynchronous environment.

What we're looking for

• Experience owning product strategy for technical platforms, infrastructure, or AI-driven products.
• Knowledge of AI model ecosystems including custom, open, and open-weight models.
• Familiarity with self-hosted or self-managed software and associated operational requirements.
• Ability to collaborate with engineers on configuration, infrastructure, deployment patterns, and hardware constraints.
• Experience leading complex product work with multiple stakeholders in areas of technical ambiguity.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for distributed, asynchronous environments.
• Judgment to operate at a principal scope across strategy, execution, and cross-functional alignment.
• Openness to transferable experience from DevSecOps, developer platforms, or infrastructure software.
