TL;DR · Principal Enterprise Architect

The Principal Enterprise Architect operates within the Office of the CIO to establish and mature enterprise architecture capabilities that connect business priorities with technology strategy. This role involves translating business strategies into target architectures, transition roadmaps, and investment guidance across domains including application, data, integration, cloud, and AI. The individual will develop reference architectures, manage technical debt reduction, and oversee portfolio rationalization while ensuring solutions are secure and scalable. Key responsibilities include defining operating models, providing governance on the Architecture Review Board, and establishing guardrails for generative AI, MLOps, and agentic AI platforms. Required expertise includes experience with SaaS, distributed systems, and API integration. The role requires a high level of proficiency in business capability modeling, scenario planning, and communicating complex technical trade-offs to executive leadership to ensure alignment across the global technology landscape.

What you'll do

  • Translate business strategy into target architectures, transition roadmaps, and investment guidance across multiple technology domains.
  • Develop current-state assessments, reference architectures, and multiyear roadmaps for critical enterprise capabilities and platforms.
  • Drive application rationalization, technical debt reduction, and the promotion of reusable components across a global landscape.
  • Establish and maintain enterprise architecture operating models, including principles, standards, and decision records.
  • Define guardrails and patterns for AI-enabled capabilities, including generative AI, MLOps, and responsible AI governance.
  • Evaluate complex technology choices based on business value, total cost of ownership, scalability, and long-term fit.
  • Serve on the Architecture Review Board to provide pragmatic guidance and review technical designs.
  • Influence portfolio planning by communicating architectural risks, trade-offs, and the business consequences of technology choices.

What we're looking for

  • 12 or more years of progressive technology experience including enterprise architecture in a large, complex, global organization.
  • Demonstrated experience developing target architectures, reference architectures, standards, and multiyear transformation roadmaps across multiple domains.
  • Experience shaping enterprise technology strategy and influencing major platform, portfolio, modernization, and investment decisions without direct reporting authority.
  • Experience partnering with platform and engineering teams on cloud, data, integration, SaaS, packaged applications, and AI-enabled capabilities.
  • Ability to translate business strategy and operating-model needs into practical, business-aligned technology direction.
  • Ability to communicate architecture recommendations and tradeoffs clearly to executives, business leaders, architects, engineers, and delivery teams.
  • Bachelor's or graduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (preferred).
  • Familiarity with established enterprise architecture frameworks and methods (preferred).
