Principal Engineer

What you'll do

• Develop and influence applications, networks, and database technologies for complex business needs.
• Translate business strategies and engineering constraints into practical technical solutions.
• Build prototypes, reference implementations, and reusable engineering patterns to solve difficult problems.
• Redefine software development processes to create an AI-native engineering culture.
• Simplify complex architectures and automate repetitive work to reduce engineering toil.
• Establish engineering guardrails for AI regarding security, testing, observability, and data protection.
• Coach engineers through pairing and design reviews to strengthen their technical judgment and AI fluency.
• Create tools and patterns that enable multiple engineering teams to solve harder problems faster.

What we're looking for

• 7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through work experience, training, military experience, or education.
• Deep hands-on software engineering experience designing and building complex enterprise applications and distributed systems (preferred).
• Strong engineering fundamentals across software design, APIs, cloud technologies, data and integration patterns, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, security, reliability, and production operations (preferred).
• Experience using generative AI and AI-assisted engineering tools to improve software development, testing, modernization, documentation, operation, and support (preferred).
• Experience experimenting with emerging AI capabilities such as LLMs, RAG, agentic systems, tool use, orchestration, and evaluation (preferred).
• Ability to simplify complex and legacy technology environments through better architecture, automation, APIs, and modern engineering practices (preferred).
• Ability to influence technical direction across teams without relying on organizational authority (preferred).
• Strong communication skills to make complex technical decisions understandable to engineers, business partners, risk partners, and leaders (preferred).
