Principal Engineer, AI and Data Platforms - Director will provide hands-on technical leadership across the Ada and Vista engineering teams to shape next-generation enterprise AI and data platforms on Google Cloud. Required expertise includes Google Cloud Platform, GKE, Vertex AI, BigQuery, and Dataflow, alongside deep experience in agentic AI platforms, large language model integration, and retrieval-augmented generation. You will also utilize Kubernetes, Terraform, GitOps, and OpenTelemetry to manage high-scale data pipelines and streaming processes while mentoring engineers to elevate standards across the organization's core infrastructure.

What you'll do

  • Provide hands-on technical leadership across Ada and Vista engineering teams to guide design choices and implementation patterns.
  • Solve complex platform engineering problems involving AI runtimes, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and operational resilience.
  • Design and build reusable platform services, developer tooling, and cloud-native capabilities on Google Cloud.
  • Improve the scalability, performance, security, and reliability of production services supporting critical AI and data workloads.
  • Conduct deep technical reviews covering system design, deployment patterns, failure modes, and service maturity.
  • Raise engineering standards through practical coaching, mentoring, and disciplined software engineering practices across multiple teams.
  • Influence technical stakeholders by providing expert judgment on AI, data, cloud, and reliability engineering disciplines.

What we're looking for

  • Advanced hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform, including GKE, Vertex AI, BigQuery, and cloud networking.
  • Deep AI engineering experience with agentic platforms, LLM integration, RAG patterns, and AI observability.
  • Strong experience with large-scale data platforms, streaming pipelines, lakehouse patterns, and governed data services.
  • Advanced platform engineering knowledge including Kubernetes, Terraform, GitOps, CI/CD, and service mesh.
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems, microservices, site reliability engineering, and DevSecOps.
  • Proven ability to use AI tools to optimize workflows while ensuring responsible and ethical use of data.
  • Ability to combine hands-on engineering expertise with technical leadership across multiple teams (preferred).
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills to raise engineering standards through practical guidance (preferred).
