The Principal Core Infrastructure Engineer provides technical leadership for the architecture, design, and evolution of OCI’s high-performance virtual networking dataplane. This role focuses on building foundational networking capabilities including packet processing, routing, network address translation, virtual network gateways, and security-policy enforcement within a scalable, multi-tenant cloud environment. The engineer will develop features to ensure high throughput, low latency, and fault tolerance while managing complex systems design involving C/C++, memory management, and Linux networking. Key technologies include DPDK, VirtIO, eBPF/XDP, SR-IOV, SmartNICs, and various userspace packet-processing frameworks. The role involves solving critical infrastructure problems by designing resilient mechanisms like health checks and failover systems while driving improvements in telemetry, observability, and automated validation to ensure stable performance across the networking stack for cloud services.
Design and implement C/C++ features for high-performance virtual networking dataplane components like routing, NAT, and security policy enforcement.
Optimize system performance regarding CPU utilization, memory management, concurrency, and packet-processing efficiency in multi-tenant cloud environments.
Integrate and evolve fast dataplane technologies including DPDK, VirtIO, eBPF/XDP, SR-IOV, and SmartNICs.
Build fault-tolerant systems with resilient mechanisms such as health checks, failover, graceful draining, and automated recovery procedures.
Develop observability tools, including metrics, telemetry, dashboards, and automated validation to monitor and maintain dataplane health.
Resolve complex production issues by analyzing system logs, network traces, and packet captures to identify root causes.
Establish technical standards for security, multi-tenant isolation, and infrastructure-as-code for service deployment and operations.
Mentor engineers and lead cross-functional technical discussions to align architecture across hardware, software, and networking teams.
What we're looking for
