TL;DR · Principal Competitive CPU Performance Forecaster & Data Scientist

As a Principal Competitive CPU Performance Forecaster & Data Scientist, you will join the Competitive Advanced Performance team to build and own the quantitative forecasting system for server CPU performance. You will develop a framework that links architecture, memory, I/O, power, and software behavior to create performance and price-performance forecasts with explicit confidence ranges. Your daily work involves modeling causality, tracking prediction errors, building scenario analyses for competitor attributes, and creating executive-grade visualizations of competitive narratives. The role requires proficiency in Python, data analysis, and advanced techniques like Bayesian modeling or Monte Carlo simulation. You will solve the problem of making uncertainty actionable by fusing benchmark results with telemetry and roadmap evidence to inform product decisions. Key skills include experience with reproducible data pipelines, versioning, and analyzing cross-ISA cloud instance performance metrics.

What you'll do

  • Design and maintain a forecasting framework linking CPU architecture, memory, I/O, power, and workload kernels.
  • Create performance, performance-per-watt, and price-performance forecasts with explicit confidence ranges.
  • Build scenarios for uncertain competitor attributes such as frequency, core count, and software maturity.
  • Track prediction errors by workload and model version to tune the forecasting system as data becomes available.
  • Develop normalized competitive scorecards covering performance, efficiency, TCO, and roadmap credibility.
  • Fuse benchmark results, performance counters, and partner telemetry while maintaining source provenance.
  • Identify leading indicators that signal risks or opportunities for upcoming products.
  • Create executive-grade visualizations and narratives to communicate forecast data and delta analysis.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
  • Strong programming and data-analysis skills in Python or an equivalent analytical environment (preferred).
  • Expertise in defining meaningful error metrics, calibration methods, and sensitivity analyses for sparse or biased data (preferred).
  • Working knowledge of server CPU and system performance and willingness to engage with architectural causality (preferred).
  • Experience with reproducible data pipelines, versioning, notebooks, scripts, and source provenance (preferred).
  • Strong visualization, writing, and presentation skills for technical and executive audiences (preferred).
  • Experience in CPU or GPU performance prediction, pre-silicon modeling, capacity planning, forecasting, or benchmark analytics (preferred).
  • Proficiency in Bayesian modeling, Monte Carlo simulation, probabilistic programming, or uncertainty quantification (preferred).
