The Principal Business Analyst - Research Program Management works with Research Program Managers and scientists to document drug discovery and data processes while translating them into requirements for technical solutions. This role involves documenting as-is and to-be business processes, mapping information system connections, identifying data elements, and creating data dictionaries. The individual will manage the backlog of requests, ensure development team clarity on requirements, and resolve data quality issues through root cause analysis. Key responsibilities include collaborating with laboratory personnel to improve workflows and testing solutions for accuracy. Required skills include proficiency in SQL, Laboratory Information Management Systems, and data and process modeling frameworks. The role operates within a research-focused environment involving drug discovery program management, bioinformatics methods, relational database concepts, and software development lifecycle methodologies to solve complex problems in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors.
Translate business strategies and goals into clear functional and non-functional requirements with quantifiable value.
Document "as-is" and "to-be" business processes for drug discovery and data management.
Map information system connections, data flows, and provide detailed data mapping and dictionaries.
Write SQL statements to investigate data across various database types and data lake principles.
Manage and prioritize the development backlog while ensuring clarity on requirements for the technical team.
Identify root causes of data quality issues and collaborate with partners to resolve them.
Partner with scientists and laboratory personnel to identify process improvements and define system goals.
Test new solutions with stakeholders to ensure accuracy and consistency of results.
What we're looking for
Master’s degree in a life science with experience in computer science or information technology.
7+ years of experience in a research, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or scientific laboratory environment.
Experience in the biotechnology and/or pharmaceutical industry is required.
Proficiency in using Laboratory Information Management Systems, SQL databases, and data and process modeling frameworks.
Ability to translate business strategies into requirements, document processes, and map information system connections and data flows.
Ability to write SQL statements to investigate data and understand data lake principles.
Experience with drug discovery program management, biological laboratory techniques, bioinformatics methods, and relational database concepts (preferred).
Experience with IT project/software development lifecycle methodologies and leading software development projects (preferred).
