The Postgres DBA joins the Cognizant Infrastructure Services Practice to manage and maintain PostgreSQL databases across Production, UAT, and Development environments. Administer and maintain PostgreSQL databases across Production, UAT, and Development environments.
Design, implement, and test backup and recovery strategies to meet RPO/RTO objectives.
Configure and maintain streaming and logical replication for high availability architectures.
Analyze and resolve performance bottlenecks by tuning parameters, indexes, and SQL execution plans.
Manage user roles, privileges, and access controls to enforce database security standards.
Develop automation scripts using Bash or Python for health checks and maintenance tasks.
Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and resolve critical incidents within SLA commitments.
Create and maintain SOPs, runbooks, and architecture documentation for database operations.
What we're looking for
Possess extensive hands-on experience working with PostgreSQL including design, tuning, partitioning, and management of large datasets in complex enterprise environments.
Apply strong knowledge of data warehousing dimensional modeling and relational design principles to construct efficient schemas for high-volume analytics.
Demonstrate practical exposure to utilities or energy domain data such as metering, asset management, and usage analytics (preferred).
Bring solid proficiency in data integration tools, scripting, or procedural languages that work effectively with PostgreSQL ecosystems.
Show understanding of data governance, security, and compliance requirements including role-based access, retention, and quality controls.
Display experience in performance monitoring and capacity planning for database platforms to enable proactive tuning and stable operations.
Support cloud migration and hybrid database deployments and lead complex troubleshooting and performance investigations.
Exhibit familiarity with hybrid work practices and collaborative tools to support communication across onsite and remote teams.
