The Packaging Engineer II joins the Packaging Engineering team to support the design, validation, implementation, and maintenance of packaging systems for sterile and non-sterile medical devices. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to execute packaging changes, manage technical documentation, and lead validation activities to ensure product integrity and regulatory compliance. Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing validation protocols, conducting testing, managing specifications and drawings, and identifying cost reduction opportunities while maintaining performance standards. The ideal candidate possesses a degree in Packaging Engineering or a related field and demonstrates expertise in packaging materials, validation methodologies, equipment, and system design. This role addresses the critical challenge of developing robust packaging solutions that support manufacturing efficiency and ensure product safety within a regulated medical device manufacturing environment, requiring strong skills in data analysis and technical evaluation.
Design, develop, and implement sterile and non-sterile packaging systems for new and existing medical products.
Prepare and execute packaging validation protocols, testing activities, and technical reports to support product requirements.
Create and maintain controlled documentation including packaging specifications, drawings, and procedures.
Provide technical support to manufacturing teams regarding packaging systems, equipment, and process improvements.
Evaluate and manage packaging material qualifications and supplier changes.
Identify and execute cost reduction opportunities while maintaining regulatory compliance and performance standards.
Lead cross-functional investigations to resolve packaging issues affecting products or manufacturing operations.
Support R&D projects including artwork updates and pallet configuration development across multiple facilities.
What we're looking for
Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of engineering experience, or an advanced degree with no experience required.
A Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering is preferred.
Candidates should possess knowledge of packaging materials, validation methodologies, equipment, and system design.
Experience in the medical device industry or other regulated manufacturing environments is preferred.
Candidates should have experience developing technical documentation, specifications, test protocols, and engineering records in controlled environments.
Ability to conduct technical evaluations, analyze data, and support the implementation of engineering solutions is required.
Experience managing multiple projects and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders is preferred.
Candidates must possess unrestricted U.S. work authorization at the time of hire.
