Member of Technical Staff - Forward Deployed AI Engineer, Health will join the Microsoft AI Health team to serve as a technical lead for a strategic collaboration with Mayo Clinic. This hands-on role involves navigating complex clinical data platforms and legacy systems to transform ambiguous goals into production-ready capabilities. You will design and build integrations, data pipelines, and platform infrastructure while architecting systems that combine frontier models with context engineering, retrieval, tool use, and orchestration. The position requires proficiency in languages such as Python, C, C++, C#, or Java, along with experience in distributed systems, Kubernetes, Databricks, Spark, and infrastructure as code. You will solve technical challenges within the healthcare domain, specifically focusing on developing a frontier AI model for clinical data while turning partner-specific learnings into reusable platform investments and integration patterns.
Serve as the technical lead for the Mayo Clinic partnership from initial discovery through deployment and adoption.
Translate ambiguous clinical goals into executable engineering plans and technical roadmaps.
Build integrations, data pipelines, and platform capabilities across legacy systems and clinical data platforms.
Architect production AI systems combining frontier models with retrieval, tool use, and deterministic services.
Write code and manage infrastructure to solve complex integration, reliability, and production-platform problems.
Resolve technical disagreements and dependencies between Microsoft and Mayo Clinic teams.
Communicate architecture, risks, and progress clearly to both implementation teams and executive leadership.
Convert partner-specific learnings into reusable platform tools and standardized integration patterns.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field and 6+ years of technical engineering experience in languages like C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
Experience designing and operating distributed systems, data platforms, and integrations across large enterprise architectures and datasets.
Experience building production LLM or machine-learning systems including context engineering, retrieval, tool use, orchestration, and evaluation.
Strong programming ability in Python and experience with platform technologies like Kubernetes, Databricks, Spark, infrastructure as code, and observability (preferred).
Ability to lead through influence in complex partner environments and communicate technical decisions to C-suite audiences (preferred).
Experience in forward-deployed engineering, field engineering, customer engineering, or similar embedded technical-delivery roles (preferred).
Experience leading deployments with healthcare providers, payers, life-sciences organizations, or other highly regulated enterprises (preferred).
Experience with electronic health records, clinical data platforms, healthcare interoperability, or longitudinal health datasets (preferred).
