TL;DR · Materials Engineer II

The Materials Engineer II joins the Neuromodulation Research & Development team to support the development and evaluation of advanced electrode technologies and materials for active implantable medical devices. This role focuses on understanding electrochemical interactions at the device-tissue interface, evaluating material performance and degradation mechanisms, and ensuring long-term reliability for neuromodulation therapies. Day-to-day responsibilities include performing electrochemical testing and characterization of metals, alloys, and electrodes using techniques such as open circuit potential, cyclic polarization, cyclic voltammetry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The candidate will also conduct bench electrical stimulation testing, analyze corrosion behavior, and develop laboratory test protocols to inform product design decisions. Required skills include hands-on experience with electrochemical testing, data interpretation, and material characterization in a laboratory setting to solve complex problems related to the durability of implantable medical devices and surface modification technologies.

What you'll do

  • Perform electrochemical testing on metals, alloys, and electrode materials using techniques like CV and EIS.
  • Conduct bench electrical stimulation testing to evaluate the performance and durability of implantable medical device leads.
  • Analyze corrosion behavior and degradation mechanisms to support product development and material performance assessments.
  • Evaluate emerging electrode technologies and surface modification approaches for neuromodulation applications.
  • Investigate electrochemical interactions at the device-tissue interface, including charge transfer and long-term stability.
  • Develop laboratory test protocols and communicate technical findings through written reports and presentations.
  • Provide data-driven recommendations for material selection, design specifications, and engineering requirements.
  • Support failure analysis and life prediction activities to improve product reliability and performance.

What we're looking for

  • Hold a Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Possess 2+ years of relevant experience if holding a Bachelor's degree, or a Master's degree in a related technical field.
  • Have hands-on experience performing electrochemical testing in an academic, research, or industrial setting.
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting experimental data to support engineering or scientific conclusions.
  • Ability to work in a laboratory environment while following documented test procedures.
  • Communicate technical findings effectively through written reports and presentations.
  • Possess unrestricted U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and for the duration of employment.
