Manager, Database Engineering

What you'll do

• Own production availability, performance, and recoverability across a multi-engine database estate.
• Act as the incident-command backstop and manage the team's coverage model.
• Set technical direction and mentor engineers to deliver high-quality database solutions.
• Champion the development of custom internal tooling and self-service platforms.
• Implement AI-driven observability and build automated tools to scale operations.
• Manage enterprise licensing, storage right-sizing, and cloud cost-to-serve metrics.
• Lead end-to-end modernization projects including version migrations and cross-engine consolidations.
• Establish engineering rhythms, KPIs, and data security standards aligned with governance policies.

What we're looking for

• Must have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field with at least 6 years of related experience.
• Must have an advanced degree with at least 4 years of related experience.
• Must have 1-2 years of experience managing and developing employees.
• Must possess deep SQL Server expertise at scale, including Always On availability groups, multi-region high availability, DR, and licensing economics.
• Must be able to lead engineers across multiple database technologies including SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Aurora, Snowflake, MongoDB, and Pinecone.
• Must have strong AWS depth running a database estate primarily on EC2, with working Azure knowledge being useful.
• Must have robust, hands-on AI ability to build observability and tooling quickly.
• Must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.
• Experience in financial services or other regulated, high-availability environments is preferred.
