Linux System Administrator
The Linux System Administrator joins a team supporting a large enterprise IT contract for the DOD within a multi-enclave environment. This role involves providing systems and software operations, maintenance support, and monitoring for Linux, Microsoft, and Mac systems within a VMware virtual environment. Day-to-day responsibilities include managing service inquiries, performing technical software configurations, conducting root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions to resolve infrastructure issues. The candidate will utilize tools such as ServiceNow for incident management and perform server patch management. Technical requirements include experience with Linux distributions like CentOS, RHEL, or Ubuntu, along with scripting via Shell, PowerShell, or PowerCLI. Additionally, the role requires knowledge of AWS/Azure cloud services, Hyper Converged Infrastructure, and potentially Ansible, Satellite, Puppet, or Chef to ensure functionality and performance enhancements for critical government infrastructure.
Administer and monitor Linux, Microsoft, and Mac systems within a VMware virtual environment.
Resolve customer service inquiries and perform technical troubleshooting to restore system functionality.
Analyze recurring issues to implement long-term solutions and prevent future occurrences.
Perform server patch management, software configuration, and infrastructure tuning for performance enhancements.
Manage incident tickets using ServiceNow by triaging, classifying, and prioritizing work efforts.
Provide 24/7/365 technical support and on-call assistance during after-hours outages.
Update operations and monitoring documentation for the 24/7/365 Operations Watch personnel.
Conduct root cause analysis and provide detailed technical reports for process improvement initiatives.
What we're looking for
Must possess a bachelor's degree with 8 years of experience, a master's with 6 years, an associate's with 10 years, or a high school diploma with 12 years.
Must be a U.S. citizen.
Must hold a current TS/SCI clearance with the ability to maintain a polygraph.
Must meet DoD 8570.11-IAT Level II certification requirements (Security+ CE, CCNA-Security, GSEC, or SSCP).
Experience in Tier 2 system administration for Linux (CentOS, RHEL, Ubuntu) and Microsoft Server (2012 R2/2016) is required.
Must have experience with VMware virtual environments, including supporting Linux, Windows, and MacOS systems.
Required skills include scripting/automation (PowerShell, Shell scripts), server patch management, and IT Service Management tools like ServiceNow.
Certifications in VMware, Microsoft Server, Linux, or Mac administration are preferred; experience with Ansible, Satellite, Puppet, or Chef is preferred.
