TL;DR · Linux Kernel & Virtualization SW Engineer

The Linux Kernel & Virtualization SW Engineer joins the server software and solutions engineering team as a senior engineer within the Linux Kernel and Virtualization development group. This role involves enabling AMD x86-64 architecture features in Linux while designing and developing core CPU and SoC features for the kernel and related open-source projects. The position focuses on subsystems including ACPI, PCIe, RAS, and CXL. Day-to-day responsibilities include driving functionality with internal and external partners, reviewing code, building unit tests, and writing technical documentation. Candidates must possess advanced skills in C programming, Git, and the GNU toolchain. Required expertise includes x86 architecture, kernel debugging, virtualization, security, and upstream development workflows. The role addresses the challenge of optimizing hardware capabilities through software integration for high-performance computing environments involving KVM/QEMU and low-level system components.

What you'll do

  • Enable AMD x86-64 architecture features within the Linux kernel and related open-source projects.
  • Design and develop core CPU and SoC features for the Linux kernel.
  • Develop and maintain features related to ACPI, PCIe, RAS, and CXL subsystems.
  • Drive feature development and functionality with internal teams and the external Linux kernel community.
  • Review code, build unit tests, and write detailed technical documentation.
  • Debug kernel subsystems and virtualization layers using low-level tools, emulators, and simulators.
  • Manage upstream development workflows by building and submitting patches to mailing lists.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 6+ years of experience.
  • Extensive expertise in x86 computing architecture and x86-64 features.
  • Advanced programming skills in C for operating system kernel and systems development.
  • Advanced Linux Kernel debugging skills across kernel subsystems and virtualization.
  • Experience with open-source engagement, including building and submitting patches on a mailing list.
  • Deep understanding of operating systems concepts, data structures, ACPI, and PCIe.
  • Exposure to KVM/QEMU (including x86-64 virtualization extensions) is a plus (preferred).
