Lead, Systems Engineer - Transition Systems Engineer serves as a critical lead responsible for planning and executing the transition of Government Furnished Equipment space vehicles to the Kobuk Ground Segment. This role involves developing formal transition plans, managing activities across phases like integration and rehearsal, and ensuring all requirements are met before the Transition to Mission Readiness Review. The position requires coordinating with cross-functional teams in engineering, operations, cybersecurity, and program management while acting as a primary interface for customer stakeholders. Key responsibilities include tracking risks, developing operational concepts, and leading technical interchange meetings. Essential skills include systems engineering discipline, mission readiness planning, and experience in space operations or ground segment transitions. The role addresses the complex challenge of moving on-orbit vehicles between ground segments within high-consequence, classified aerospace and defense environments.
Lead the planning and execution of formal transition plans to move GFE space vehicles to the Kobuk Ground Segment.
Manage all transition phases including preparation, integration, dress rehearsals, and Transition to Mission Readiness Reviews (TMRR).
Identify and coordinate necessary resources across engineering, operations, logistics, cybersecurity, and training departments.
Develop detailed transition schedules, resource plans, and activity sequencing for on-orbit vehicle transitions.
Coordinate with cross-functional teams to identify and mitigate risks, dependencies, and technical requirements.
Communicate Space Operations Center requirements and mission needs to internal teams and customer stakeholders.
Lead technical interchange meetings, readiness reviews, and working groups to ensure project milestones are met.
Develop operational concepts, transition procedures, checklists, and risk mitigation plans for satellite activities.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree and 9 years of experience, a graduate degree and 7 years of experience, or 13 years of experience without a degree.
Active Top Secret/SCI with SAP eligibility.
At least 3 years of experience in systems engineering, mission operations, ground systems, satellite operations, or transition planning for aerospace or defense programs.
At least 3 years of experience working with customer stakeholders in classified or high-consequence operational environments.
Experience with Launch and Early Orbit/Operations (LEOP/LEOPS) (preferred).
Experience with satellite command and control, ground segment operations, or mission operations centers (preferred).
Experience transitioning spacecraft or mission systems between operational environments, control centers, or ground segments (preferred).
