Lead System Engineering - Database Architecture and Engineering serves as a technical leader within the Database Architecture and Engineering team, focusing on infrastructure automation for diverse database platforms including Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, DB2, Informix, and SAP environments. The role involves designing, developing, and maintaining reusable Terraform modules and GitHub Actions workflows to provision secure, standardized infrastructure across AWS, Azure, and hybrid clouds. Key responsibilities include automating lifecycle management, integrating enterprise security and monitoring services, and troubleshooting complex networking or storage issues. Candidates must possess expertise in Infrastructure as Code, Linux systems engineering, and scripting languages like Bash or Python. This position solves the challenge of creating scalable, compliant database-ready environments by translating specific product requirements into automated deployment patterns while ensuring high availability across multi-cloud and hybrid infrastructure landscapes.

What you'll do

  • Design, develop, and maintain reusable Terraform modules for database-ready infrastructure across hybrid cloud environments.
  • Build and support GitHub Actions workflows to automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration, validation, and teardown.
  • Configure core infrastructure components including compute, storage, networking, encryption, and identity management for various database platforms.
  • Translate complex database requirements into standardized infrastructure patterns and automated deployment configurations.
  • Integrate infrastructure with enterprise services such as certificate management, secrets handling, monitoring, and backup systems.
  • Serve as a senior technical resource to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues in automation, networking, and cloud services.
  • Provide technical leadership by conducting code reviews, mentoring junior engineers, and establishing engineering standards.
  • Collaborate across teams to ensure infrastructure meets security, compliance, and operational readiness requirements.

What we're looking for

  • 5+ years of experience delivering Infrastructure-as-Code solutions using Terraform in production environments.
  • 5+ years of experience building or supporting CI/CD workflows with GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or similar platforms.
  • 5+ years of experience with AWS infrastructure services including EC2, EBS, IAM, KMS, SSM, VPC, and others.
  • Strong Linux systems engineering, troubleshooting, and scripting skills in Bash, Python, or PowerShell.
  • Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership or coordinating a focused technical workstream within an engineering team.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise security principles such as least privilege, encryption, secrets management, and network segmentation.
  • Ability to translate complex technical requirements into implementable engineering stories, acceptance criteria, and documentation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related technical field (preferred).
