Lead System Engineer (Government) The Lead System Engineer joins the National Security organization to support professional services for a U.S. Government customer. This role focuses on the design, development, operation, and maintenance of mission communications systems, infrastructure, and SIP-based real-time applications. The engineer will manage system lifecycles, perform hardware and software installations, troubleshoot complex errors, and implement security hardening using CIS and STIG standards. Day-to-day tasks include monitoring logs for performance anomalies, creating automation scripts, managing database performance, and developing disaster recovery plans. Technical requirements include proficiency in Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Rocky, Debian, and Windows environments, as well as experience with Oracle, MySQL, and PostGres databases. The role requires expertise in TCP/IP networking protocols, virtualization via VMWare, and scripting using Bash, Python, or Perl to support mission-critical data, voice, and video services for intelligence operations.

What you'll do

  • Design, install, configure, and maintain mission-critical systems in physical and virtual environments.
  • Manage the full system lifecycle including planning, designing, evaluating, and migrating hardware and software components.
  • Perform high-level troubleshooting for hardware/software errors and serve as a Tier 3/4 escalation resource.
  • Implement security hardening measures and ensure compliance with customer standards such as CIS and STIG.
  • Create scripts and automation tools to perform routine tasks, gather metrics, and generate reports.
  • Develop and maintain system backups, disaster recovery plans, and failover procedures.
  • Monitor system and application logs to audit for performance issues and security anomalies.
  • Create technical documentation including system design diagrams, user guides, and installation manuals.

What we're looking for

  • Must possess a TS/SCI clearance with a polygraph.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecommunications, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 to 10 years of experience designing, configuring, and maintaining enterprise-class system solutions.
  • Proficiency in managing both Linux (Red Hat, Rocky, Debian) and Windows operating systems in physical and virtual environments.
  • Expertise in networking protocols, hardware, and software including TCP/IP, SSH, SFTP, SCP, HTTPS, DNS, and SNMP.
  • Experience with database administration for Oracle, MySQL, and PostgreSQL systems.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity concepts and implementing security baselines such as CIS and STIG.
  • Ability to create scripts and automation tools using Bash, Python, or Perl to support routine tasks.
