Lead Software Engineer
As a Lead Software Engineer within the Disney Experiences Technology team, you will take end-to-end ownership of backend Java services to support ticketing products, including annual passes and park reservations for various brands. You will ideate, design, build, test, and monitor high-scale software components while providing leadership and mentorship to junior engineers through code reviews and reference implementations. The role requires extensive experience in a large enterprise environment using Java, Spring Framework, Docker, and AWS managed services such as ECS, S3, Lambdas, and RDS. You will also work with relational databases, NoSQL stores, and tools like GitLab or GitHub. Your work focuses on the technical challenges of maintaining application stability and developing sophisticated software for complex systems within a fast-paced product launch environment to enhance digital guest experiences across multiple business lines.
Own the end-to-end lifecycle of backend Java services including design, coding, testing, and performance monitoring.
Lead code reviews and provide technical direction to junior engineers to maintain high engineering standards.
Develop complex programs and implement software components for large-scale, sophisticated systems.
Design and implement cloud-based solutions using AWS managed services like ECS, S3, Lambda, and RDS.
Manage the analysis, debugging, and modification of software improvements for local and networked applications.
Create reference implementations to mentor junior staff and improve team technical capabilities.
Participate in the estimation and planning of scalable projects and budget allocations.
Stay updated on emerging technologies to provide informed recommendations for product development.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's or foreign equivalent degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or a comparable field of study.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in backend development or software engineering in a large enterprise environment using Java, Docker, and Spring Framework.
Experience with AWS managed service solution design and implementation including ECS, S3, Lambdas, and RDS.
Demonstrated experience working with both relational databases and NoSQL data stores.
Hands-on knowledge of Design Patterns and Data Structures.
Ability to work in a fast-paced software application delivery and product launch environment.
Knowledge of performance testing and application profiling (preferred).
Experience with AI tools such as RAG, Cursor, GitHub MCP, MariaDB MCP (preferred).
