As a Lead Software Engineer within the Commercial & Investment Bank - Digital & Platform Services team, you will provide technical leadership and strategic direction for agile teams delivering secure, scalable technology products. You will be responsible for driving architectural decisions, mentoring engineers, and managing the full software development life cycle while remaining hands-on with critical solutions. Your daily work involves designing complex systems, resolving technical debt, and championing the adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality and delivery speed. You will utilize a specialized technology stack including IBM iSeries (AS/400), DB2 for i, LANSA, Visual LANSA, Java, Python, and IBM MQ. Additionally, you will leverage tools like Git, Bitbucket, and various AI-powered agents to manage legacy code analysis, modernization efforts, and automated testing within a distributed environment.
Lead the technical design and architecture of complex, cross-functional systems to ensure scalability and security.
Develop high-quality production code while reviewing and debugging code written by other team members.
Drive the adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality and delivery speed.
Establish validation standards and best practices for AI-generated outputs, including peer reviews and automated testing.
Identify systemic technical debt and architectural risks to develop prioritized remediation roadmaps.
Mentor and coach engineers through design reviews and technical upskilling initiatives.
Translate business strategies into technical roadmaps by partnering with product owners and stakeholders.
Manage the SDLC toolchain strategy to maximize engineering throughput and reduce manual toil.
What we're looking for
Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years of applied experience.
Hands-on experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
Demonstrated experience leading the use of approved AI-assisted software development tools and establishing validation standards for safety and performance.
Expert-level IBM iSeries (AS/400) development experience including DB2 for i files, views, indexes, triggers, and stored procedures.
LANSA / Visual LANSA IDE development with experience in upgrade planning, execution, and migration strategies.
Proficiency in Java and Python on IBM i (PASE environment) to define integration patterns and coach team members.
Advanced debugging, root cause analysis, and leadership in high availability/disaster recovery (HA/DR) strategies.
Experience with Git version control, Aldon LMI, Robot Scheduling, ServiceNow, and advanced prompt engineering for legacy code analysis. (preferred)
