As a Lead Software Engineer- Java with AWS and Kafka, you will join the Investment Banking - Collateral Services team as a core technical contributor within an agile environment. You will design, develop, and troubleshoot creative software solutions while building end-to-end features across the Client Portal, spanning React front ends, Java microservices, and Postgres/Aurora data layers. Your daily work involves developing event-driven services using Kafka, deploying to AWS, and managing CI/CD pipelines. A critical component of this role is driving team adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices for code review, refactoring, and testing while ensuring secure coding standards. You will solve complex technical problems in a regulated financial services context, utilizing Java, TypeScript, and Kafka to integrate systems and ensure stable, scalable performance across the full technology stack.

What you'll do

Develop end-to-end features across React front-ends, Java microservices, and Postgres/Aurora databases.
Drive team adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices for code quality and delivery speed.
Establish validation standards for AI-generated outputs to ensure security, performance, and correctness.
Develop and maintain event-driven services using Kafka to integrate with downstream systems.
Deploy, monitor, and troubleshoot applications within an AWS cloud environment.
Debug and resolve technical issues across the full stack from front-end behavior to database queries.
Coach engineers on the safe and compliant use of AI tools in engineering workflows.

What we're looking for

Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years of applied experience.
Solid hands-on experience delivering production web applications.
Strong backend skills in Java and building/maintaining microservices.
Practical front-end experience with React and modern JavaScript/TypeScript.
Working experience with Kafka, event-driven patterns, and API development.
Proficiency in PostgreSQL/Aurora for writing efficient queries and managing schema performance.
Demonstrated experience leading the use of approved AI-assisted software development tools and coaching others on responsible AI practices.
Experience in a regulated or financial-services environment (preferred); familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, ECS, and CI/CD pipelines (preferred).
