TL;DR · Lead Hardware Engineer

Lead Hardware Engineer As part of the Imaging team, the Lead Hardware Engineer oversees the technical execution, architecture, and engineering for the ladar product line. This role involves managing the transition of high-precision active electro-optical systems from early prototypes through manufacturing development into high-rate production. You will lead a small team to conduct trade studies, manage multidisciplinary designs, and oversee integration and testing for land, sea, air, and space applications. Key responsibilities include defining hardware architecture, selecting components, designing ruggedized test equipment, and managing New Product Introduction processes. The role requires expertise in mechanical, electrical, optical, and test engineering disciplines to ensure system reliability in extreme environments. You will utilize skills in performance modeling, environmental testing, and supply chain coordination to solve complex problems involving active sensing systems and high-precision pointing architectures for defense applications.

What you'll do

  • Own the hardware architecture, component selection, and detailed mechanical, electrical, and optical engineering for ladar systems.
  • Lead the transition of high-precision electro-optical systems from early prototypes to high-rate production environments.
  • Manage New Product Introduction (NPI) processes including assembly coordination, inventory management, and design verification testing.
  • Deliver technical artifacts and meet critical program milestones such as PDR, CDR, and Manufacturing Readiness Reviews.
  • Design and ruggedize automated manufacturing and optical test equipment for the production floor.
  • Define and track hardware Verification and Validation (V+V) metrics to ensure reliability in extreme environments.
  • Manage the hardware continuous improvement roadmap and oversee configuration control and field issue resolution.
  • Lead a team of engineers through the full product lifecycle from concept ideation to sustainment.

What we're looking for

  • Degree in a technical field such as mechanical, electrical, optical, or systems engineering, physics, or a hard science.
  • 8+ years of experience developing and deploying complex electromechanical, electro-optical, or active sensing systems.
  • Deep expertise across mechanical, electrical, optical, and test disciplines including system design and performance modeling.
  • Proven experience managing New Product Introduction (NPI) and scaling hardware from prototypes to high-rate production.
  • Track record of leading high-performance, cross-functional engineering teams in fast-paced environments.
  • Ability to obtain and hold a U.S. security clearance.
  • Willingness to travel to test sites and manufacturing facilities as needed.
