As a Lead Distributed Systems Engineer, you will join an agile team to design and deliver trusted, market-leading technology products that are secure, stable, and scalable. You will be responsible for building and evolving critical backend platforms and services that operate reliably across multiple systems, regions, and environments. Your daily work involves executing software solutions, developing low-latency or high-throughput services, and designing architecture for complex distributed applications involving service decomposition, data consistency patterns, caching, and failover. You will manage end-to-end system ownership including observability, incident response, and performance optimization while identifying systemic issues like hot partitions or cascading failures. The role requires expertise in modern object-oriented languages, SQL and NoSQL database querying, CI/CD pipelines, and distributed systems fundamentals such as consensus basics, idempotency, concurrency, replication, and partitioning to solve complex production problems.
Design, develop, and troubleshoot resilient distributed solutions for complex production problems.
Build high-throughput, low-latency services, background workers, and APIs with strong reliability guarantees.
Create architecture artifacts for service decomposition, data consistency, caching, and failover.
Own end-to-end system operations including observability, incident response, and performance optimization.
Analyze production telemetry and business data to drive improvements in scalability and reliability.
Proactively identify and resolve systemic issues like hot partitions, thundering herds, and cascading failures.
Partner with infrastructure, security, and platform teams to deliver integrated capabilities and service contracts.
Participate in communities of practice through mentoring and technical design reviews.
What we're looking for
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
Recent, hands-on experience building distributed systems in one or more modern object-oriented languages.
Strong understanding of distributed systems fundamentals including consistency models, consensus basics, idempotency, concurrency, and failure handling.
Practical experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability in production environments.
Experience developing, debugging, and maintaining code in a large corporate environment with SQL or NoSQL database querying.
Solid knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle and engineering best practices like code review and automated testing.
Working knowledge of agile methodologies, CI/CD, application resiliency, and security controls.
Experience building high-performance enterprise applications for real-time environments (preferred).
