Senior Distributed Systems Engineer

What you'll do

• Design, build, and operate backend services to enforce regional boundaries on customer data storage and processing.
• Write technical designs, RFCs, and code for services and libraries while owning their production operation.
• Integrate residency guarantees into existing platforms without regressing performance or reliability.
• Reason about failure modes and consistency to design systems that fail closed for compliance.
• Participate in on-call rotations, lead incident responses, and conduct post-mortems.
• Invest in system reliability, capacity planning, and cost management.
• Raise engineering standards through code reviews, mentorship, and clear technical documentation.

What we're looking for

• 5+ years of professional experience designing, building, and operating production distributed systems at scale.
• Strong proficiency in at least one system or backend language such as Go, Rust, or C/C++.
• Solid grasp of distributed systems fundamentals including consistency models, replication, sharding, and failure modes.
• Practical experience with API design (REST or gRPC), relational databases, and asynchronous messaging or event streaming systems.
• Comfortable with AI-assisted development tooling while remaining accountable for correctness, security, and design quality.
• Track record of production ownership including on-call, incident response, and continuous investment in reliability.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for writing design documents and collaborating across time zones.
• Export control laws, including the U.S. Export Administration Regulations.
