Lab Engineer, Battery

What you'll do

• Design and build test setups using battery cyclers, power supplies, DAQs, and other laboratory equipment.
• Develop electrical harnesses, test fixtures, breakout boxes, and instrumentation interfaces for battery systems.
• Integrate hardware components like PCBAs and sensors into complete, functional test systems.
• Execute complex testing including performance, characterization, environmental, and reliability tests on battery packs.
• Troubleshoot hardware failures, instrumentation issues, and communication network errors in the laboratory.
• Perform root cause investigations to isolate hardware defects from test system malfunctions.
• Manage equipment calibration, preventive maintenance, and documentation of wiring diagrams and operating procedures.
• Implement improvements for laboratory infrastructure, safety controls, and automated test throughput.

What we're looking for

• Must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or granted asylum/refugee status for export control compliance.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in hardware development, test labs, space/aerospace maintenance, or hands-on engineering environments.
• Experience designing, building, and troubleshooting electrical or electro-mechanical test setups.
• Experience with laboratory equipment including power supplies, electronic loads, oscilloscopes, DMMs, DAQs, or similar instrumentation.
• Experience reading electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment specifications, and engineering documentation.
• Experience troubleshooting complex hardware, instrumentation, or automated test systems.
• Experience developing technical procedures and documenting engineering test setups.
• Understanding of electrical safety, battery safety, ESD controls, grounding, interlocks, and laboratory safety systems.
• Experience testing lithium-ion batteries, battery packs, BMS, or high-power electrical systems (preferred).
• Experience with PCBA functional testing and electrical troubleshooting (preferred).
• Experience with battery cyclers, environmental chambers, thermal cycling, vacuum, or vibration equipment (preferred).
• Experience with CAN, I2C, SPI, UART, Ethernet, or other hardware communication interfaces (preferred).
• Experience with Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB, or similar tools for automation and data acquisition (preferred).
• Experience in aerospace, automotive, energy storage, or semiconductor industries (preferred).
