Intern Cybersecurity Specialist – 2027 is a role within the IBM Consulting FutureNow Center where you will work alongside experienced professionals to solve complex security challenges for diverse clients. You will contribute to projects involving threat detection, security monitoring, vulnerability management, incident response, and governance, risk, and compliance activities. Your daily work involves analyzing security events and operational data to identify trends, documenting processes, and supporting cybersecurity assessments. The role requires a foundational understanding of networking, operating systems, and enterprise technology environments. You will utilize modern tools including Artificial Intelligence, threat intelligence, and cloud technologies to protect critical business systems from evolving threats. This position focuses on the practical application of cyber resilience strategies across various industries, including healthcare, financial services, and manufacturing, while building skills in cybersecurity consulting and transformation initiatives.
Support cybersecurity initiatives to strengthen security operations, governance, risk management, and compliance.
Analyze security requirements and document processes to support risk management activities.
Contribute to security monitoring, vulnerability management, incident response, and threat detection.
Analyze security events and operational data to identify trends and provide recommendations for client outcomes.
Test, validate, and support cybersecurity solutions to protect critical business systems and information.
Assist in the development of specialized expertise in CyberDefend or Cyber Threat Management areas.
Utilize AI-enabled tools and modern technologies to defend against evolving cyber threats.
What we're looking for
High School Diploma or GED.
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
Basic understanding of cybersecurity principles, networking, operating systems, security best practices, and enterprise technology environments.
Demonstrated application of technical or analytical skills through coursework, labs, projects, competitions, research, or internships.
Interest in cybersecurity, cloud technologies, risk management, Artificial Intelligence, and digital transformation concepts.
Exposure to cybersecurity operations, governance, risk management, compliance, or enterprise security technologies (preferred).
Familiarity with security monitoring, vulnerability management, threat intelligence, identity and access management, or recognized cybersecurity frameworks (preferred).
Ability to collaborate effectively with teammates while supporting cybersecurity initiatives and enterprise security transformation (preferred).
