Installation Technician II

What you'll do

• Complete service orders for data network and voice infrastructure moves, adds, changes, and repairs.
• Install and configure hardware including ethernet switches, wireless access points, voice handsets, and UPS units.
• Troubleshoot performance issues and service outages for wired, wireless, and voice networks.
• Pull, splice, terminate, and test copper and fiber optic cabling in accordance with engineered designs.
• Label and document the installed cable plant and maintain online records of physical infrastructure.
• Deploy new network and voice infrastructure for capital projects, building remodels, and hardware refreshes.
• Perform work across various campus locations including construction areas, mechanical rooms, and rooftops.

What we're looking for

• Associate degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Up to one year of experience installing, repairing, and maintaining wired data, wireless data, voice, and special-purpose network systems.
• Experience with copper twisted pair and fiber-optic plants.
• Basic understanding of telecommunications, data networking, and structured wiring.
• Familiarity with cabling components such as CAT5/CAT6 and fiber-optics.
• Ability to read and comprehend engineering documents to execute plans in the field.
• Proficiency in oral and written communication to convey technical information to various audiences.
• Must possess and maintain a valid NYS Driver’s License.
