TL;DR · Index Analyst

The Index Analyst joins the Equity Index Rebalancing team to lead research, modeling, and implementation for systematic equity-index rebalancing strategies. Working with senior investors and portfolio managers, the analyst identifies and monetizes rebalance-related opportunities while enhancing portfolio-construction and execution processes. Core responsibilities include owning quantitative research on index events like reconstitutions, corporate actions, and methodology changes. The role involves developing systematic models to forecast rebalance flows, price impact, and liquidity. Key tasks include building Python-based research tools for data processing and signal generation, and improving portfolio-optimization frameworks. Required skills include Python, pandas, NumPy, SciPy, and optimization libraries, alongside expertise in statistical modeling, time-series analysis, and back-testing. The work focuses on analyzing index methodologies to manage risk factors, crowding, and trading costs within benchmark-tracking portfolios.

What you'll do

  • Lead quantitative research on equity-index rebalances including reconstitutions, corporate actions, and methodology changes.
  • Analyze index rules to identify trading opportunities, risk factors, and potential sources of crowding.
  • Develop and test systematic models to forecast rebalance flows, price impact, liquidity, and trading costs.
  • Build and maintain Python-based tools for data processing, signal generation, and portfolio construction.
  • Create portfolio-optimization frameworks balancing expected return, liquidity, turnover, and risk constraints.
  • Conduct historical back-testing and attribution analysis to evaluate and improve investment strategies.
  • Develop market monitors and dashboards to track upcoming rebalance events and realized outcomes.
  • Translate legal and index-provider documentation into quantitative inputs and portfolio implications.

What we're looking for

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in index rebalancing, index arbitrage, ETF/index portfolio management, quantitative equity research, or systematic trading.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting quantitative research specifically related to equity-index rebalancing, including index events and methodology-driven flows.
  • Strong understanding of equity-index methodologies, reconstitution processes, corporate actions, free-float adjustments, and index-provider event mechanics.
  • Strong command of statistical modeling, time-series analysis, hypothesis testing, back-testing methodology, and empirical research design.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a quantitative discipline such as mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, physics, economics, or finance.
  • Programming ability in Python, including experience with pandas, NumPy, SciPy, optimization libraries, and production-quality research workflows (preferred).
