The Identity Access Management (IAM) Architect will lead the technical design and implementation of large-scale, global identity access management services for the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Diplomatic Technologies. This role involves overseeing 24x7 worldwide operations, modernization activities, Zero Trust Architecture adoption, and security integration across all geographic regions. The architect will define enterprise architecture roadmaps, manage non-human identities to support AI implementation, and develop automated solutions for service accounts, certificates, and APIs. Key responsibilities include establishing governance frameworks and mentoring staff while ensuring compliance with NIST standards. Required technical expertise includes Active Directory, Microsoft Entra, Okta, Ping, CyberArk, and cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP. The role also requires proficiency in DNS, TCP/IP, PKI, ADFS, and integrating workflows with ServiceNow to ensure secure authentication for cloud-hosted applications within a government enterprise environment.

What you'll do

  • Lead the technical design and implementation of large-scale global identity access management services.
  • Define and evolve the enterprise architecture, strategy, and roadmap for IAM capabilities.
  • Manage non-human identities to securely support AI implementation across the organization.
  • Design secure, scalable, and automated solutions for managing service accounts, machine identities, and certificates.
  • Establish governance frameworks, lifecycle controls, and operational standards for identity management.
  • Develop architecture artifacts, implementation guidance, and metrics to ensure consistency and automation.
  • Provide steady-state support for current IAM environments while leading modernization initiatives.
  • Serve as a technical leader and mentor to junior and mid-career staff across the program.

What we're looking for

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must possess an active TS/SCI clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of technical experience.
  • Experience working within a government enterprise environment.
  • Deep understanding of Zero Trust Architecture, NIST frameworks, and other government standards.
  • Experience with Active Directory, Microsoft Entra, DNS, TCP/IP, PKI, and ADFS.
  • Experience with identity solutions (Okta, Ping, CyberArk) and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
  • Experience integrating workflows with ITSM platforms like ServiceNow.
  • Microsoft Identity and Access Administrator Associate (SC-300) certification.
  • One or more specific Microsoft certifications (MS-102, MD-102, SC-100, AZ-104, AZ-305, or AI-centric ones) (preferred).
  • CISSP certification (preferred).
  • Technical certifications from other industry leaders in the IAM segment (preferred).
