GNC Engineer, Space Emerging Talent joins the Space team to contribute to the analysis, design, simulation, and testing of satellite GNC subsystems. This role involves developing 3-DOF and 6-DOF physics-based simulation environments for Monte Carlo analyses, tuning attitude determination and control algorithms, and performing orbit determination and maneuver planning. The engineer will collaborate with flight software teams to implement algorithms in C++ or Python while supporting hardware-in-the-loop testing on FlatSats to verify sensor and actuator performance. Key technical requirements include proficiency in Python, MATLAB/Simulink, or modern C++, along with knowledge of orbital mechanics, astrodynamics, and control theory. The role addresses the challenge of building resilient, software-defined spacecraft systems for complex mission profiles including rendezvous, proximity operations, and docking. Candidates should have experience with state estimation techniques like Extended Kalman Filters and familiar hardware such as star trackers and reaction wheels.
Design and tune spacecraft GNC algorithms for attitude determination, orbit determination, and maneuver planning.
Develop and maintain 3-DOF and 6-DOF physics-based simulation environments to validate vehicle performance.
Conduct Monte Carlo analyses to verify the reliability of spacecraft systems.
Implement and test GNC algorithms in embedded C++ or Python environments with the Flight Software team.
Perform subsystem and vehicle-level testing on FlatSats and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HITL) testbeds.
Identify hardware anomalies and verify the performance of sensors and actuators during testing.
Translate mission requirements into functional flight capabilities through cross-functional engineering collaboration.
What we're looking for
Must be pursuing or have recently completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer/Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field.
0–2 years of professional, internship, or hands-on university project team experience in multidisciplinary engineering.
Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance.
Foundational knowledge in spacecraft dynamics, orbital mechanics, control theory, and astrodynamics.
Proficiency in Python, MATLAB/Simulink, or modern C++.
Ability to solve complex technical problems with little oversight and communicate clearly.
Hands-on experience with satellite design, integration, or operations via university missions or internships (preferred).
Familiarity with state estimation, GNC hardware, Linux environments, Git, CI workflows, and RPOD concepts (preferred).
