TL;DR · Geographically Separated Units Systems Engineer

The Geographically Separated Units Systems Engineer joins the Leidos Digital Group to support the Air Force National Capital Region IT Services program. This role focuses on the engineering, integration, sustainment, and continual improvement of enterprise information technology services across multiple military sites. You will translate mission requirements into supportable system solutions, manage service-level agreements, and develop technical recommendations for infrastructure and cybersecurity. Day-to-day responsibilities include drafting official guidance, conducting trade studies, managing project activities through the lifecycle, and coordinating with stakeholders to resolve service gaps. The role requires expertise in systems engineering principles, IT service management practices, and tools like BMC Helix/Remedy or ServiceNow. You will solve complex problems regarding mission alignment and infrastructure scalability while ensuring all solutions meet strict federal governance standards, including NIST frameworks and Department of the Air Force requirements for secure, scalable communication networks.

What you'll do

  • Draft and maintain MAJCOM-level guidance, standard operating procedures, and technical documentation aligned with federal and defense frameworks.
  • Translate mission requirements into technical architectures, implementation plans, cost estimates, and sustainment considerations.
  • Conduct technical assessments, trade studies, and risk evaluations to identify secure and cost-effective IT solutions.
  • Manage the lifecycle of engineering projects by coordinating between project managers, architects, and technical teams.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to develop service-level agreements and map requirements to appropriate service catalog offerings.
  • Prepare executive briefings and decision-support products regarding service performance, risk management, and contract negotiations.
  • Analyze service-request data and monitoring tools to identify root causes and implement corrective actions for process improvement.
  • Manage high-level taskers from Congressional, DoD, and senior leadership while ensuring cross-organizational alignment.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree and 12 years of experience, or a master's degree and 10 years of experience (additional experience may substitute for a degree).
  • Must possess an active DoD Secret security clearance at the time of hire.
  • Must be IAT Level II compliant, such as possessing a current CompTIA Sec+ CE or equivalent.
  • At least eight years of military, federal government, or defense-contractor experience supporting enterprise IT and mission systems.
  • Demonstrated experience applying systems-engineering principles across requirements analysis, solution design, integration, implementation, verification, and sustainment.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise IT infrastructure, networks, cybersecurity, service management, and operational support dependencies.
  • Experience coordinating service-level agreements, memoranda of agreement or understanding, and service-cost estimates.
  • Experience with BMC Helix Remedy, ServiceNow, or similar platforms; certifications like PMP, Security+, or Lean Six Sigma are preferred.
