The Executive Director - Principal Architect | Digital/ AI joins the Commercial & Investment Bank Payments Technology team to drive the architectural direction of cloud-based payment technologies. This role involves shaping the digital transformation of merchant acquiring capabilities, including online mobile and web experiences, developer-facing APIs, and AI solutions. Key responsibilities include developing multi-year technology roadmaps, establishing AI-enabled engineering patterns, and defining API standards and web frameworks. The candidate will build scalable coding frameworks, develop production code, and advise on technology selection to ensure secure, interoperable solutions. Required expertise includes web frameworks, mobile solutions, identity and access management, and programming languages. The role specifically addresses complex architecture problems within the payments business, focusing on digital onboarding, client self-service, and integrating enterprise-authorized AI capabilities into engineering workflows.
Advise cross-functional teams on technology selection to achieve target-state architecture and meet evolving digital needs.
Develop multi-year technology roadmaps aligned with business strategy and digital transformation goals for payments and client experiences.
Apply enterprise-authorized AI capabilities within architecture and engineering workflows to accelerate analysis and design decisioning.
Establish reuse-first, AI-enabled engineering patterns and governance across the software development lifecycle and toolchain.
Define and govern API standards, web frameworks, and integration patterns to enable scalable and secure solutions.
Create complex coding frameworks using software design principles to improve velocity and quality across teams.
Develop secure production code and review code written by others to uphold engineering excellence.
Serve as a subject matter expert to develop technical methods in specialized fields and product development methodologies.
What we're looking for
Formal training or certification on architecture concepts and 10+ years of applied experience.
Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability at enterprise scale.
Strategic mindset in shaping digital transformation for payments businesses, including digital onboarding, client self-service, and partner integrations.
Deep knowledge of web frameworks, mobile solutions, API design, and governance.
Strong experience in identity and access management, including partner integration via APIs or web-based protocols.
Expertise in one or more programming languages with a strong foundation in software engineering principles.
Demonstrated experience applying enterprise-authorized AI capabilities within architecture and engineering workflows with awareness of data sensitivity.
Ability to present and effectively communicate complex technical concepts to senior leaders and executives.
