TL;DR · Electrical Engineer, Data Center

The Electrical Engineer-Data Center-Onsite serves as the electrical power-generation subject-matter expert for data center infrastructure. This role involves defining electrical system architecture, capacity, redundancy, and protection requirements while leading technical reviews for gas turbines, reciprocating generators, diesel and natural-gas generators, alternators, and transformers. Daily responsibilities include developing synchronization, load-sharing, and black-start strategies; performing short-circuit, load-flow, arc-flash, and harmonic studies; and coordinating interfaces between UPS systems, switchgear, and utility services. The position requires managing construction oversight, commissioning plans, and root-cause analysis for electrical faults. Candidates must utilize skills in interpreting one-line diagrams and schematics while ensuring compliance with IEEE, IEC, NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, NEC, and NETA standards. Experience with SEL, GE, Siemens, ABB/Hitachi Energy, Schneider Electric, Eaton, Caterpillar, Cummins, Wärtsilä, MTU/Rolls-Royce, or GE Vernova equipment is preferred.

What you'll do

  • Define electrical system architecture, capacity, redundancy, protection, grounding, and operational-readiness requirements.
  • Lead design and technical reviews for gas turbines, generators, transformers, switchgear, and balance-of-plant equipment.
  • Develop and validate generator synchronization, load-sharing, island-mode, black-start, and utility-transfer strategies.
  • Perform and review short-circuit, load-flow, arc-flash, grounding, harmonic, and protective-device coordination studies.
  • Provide technical oversight during construction, including field inspections, quality reviews, and punch-list resolution.
  • Develop and oversee commissioning plans for generator startup, relay testing, switchgear testing, and integrated systems testing.
  • Lead root-cause analysis for electrical faults, generator trips, protective-relay operations, and power-quality events.
  • Develop electrical operating procedures, maintenance strategies, emergency-response plans, and lifecycle replacement plans.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with electrical power generation, medium-voltage systems, and mission-critical or industrial electrical infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of gas turbines, reciprocating generators, diesel and natural-gas generation, alternators, generator controls, synchronization, load sharing, and paralleling switchgear.
  • Experience with switchgear, transformers, protective relays, power distribution, grounding, and electrical power-system studies.
  • Experience delivering power infrastructure from design through construction, commissioning, and operational handover.
  • Ability to interpret and develop one-line diagrams, electrical schematics, protection diagrams, equipment specifications, and commissioning procedures.
  • Strong cross-functional coordination, technical writing, vendor-management, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Experience with hyperscale or enterprise data centers, microgrids, distributed energy resources, or utility-scale generation (preferred).
  • Familiarity with IEEE, IEC, NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, NEC, NETA, OSHA, and relevant utility/interconnection requirements (preferred).
  • Experience with SEL, GE, Siemens, ABB/Hitachi Energy, Schneider Electric, Eaton, Caterpillar, Cummins, Wärtsilä, MTU/Rolls-Royce, GE Vernova, or Siemens Energy equipment (preferred).
  • Professional Engineer license, NETA certification, or equivalent power-systems credential (preferred).
